Delve yourself into the world of Contemporary Theatre Acting with our local talent in this fun-filled workshop where you can learn contemporary acting with focusing on space and rhythm!

Recommendation: Bring along your excitement and burning questions on acting. It is encouraged to wear comfortable sports attire and a bottled drink for refreshment.

By the end of this workshop, you are officially #MadeInBenchLab and will know: 1) to introduce a number of acting theorists such as Stanislavski (Method Acting), Strasberg & Brecht, 2) able to identify the different aspects of acting such as characterisation, voice projection, emotions, body movement, space & rhythm, 3) able to learn and apply acting theories into practice (praxis), as well as, apply traditional acting into contemporary acting, 4) able to apply knowledge in any profession, including but not limited to, teaching, public speaking & other communication-based professions, and 5) able to explore own creativity and ideas in all aspects of contemporary acting.

BenchLab Talented Instructor: Akhmal Aiman of akhmal.aiman. You’ll be learning from a contemporary visual & performing artist. He studied Acting Theories and Practices & Contemporary Theatre in National University of Singapore & Drama in Universiti Brunei Darussalam. He was taught by an actress, Nora Samosir and performer/ lecturer Dr Maiya Murphy. In addition, he was trained and mentored by Contemporary Theatre Artistic Director Natalie Hennedige of Cake Production in Singapore. Through that, he ever taught student-oriented Applied Theatre Club for teachers-in-training at KUPUSB. Akhmal also hold the role of Director, Producer & Scriptwriter of TW!STED and Red Umbrella in UBD Performing Arts Club. In 2017, he became the TEDx Speaker with the topic, "Using Contemporary Performing Arts to Express Identity".
